Charcoal Fried Hokkien Mee @ Good View kopitiam

When is the last time you go for a jog or exercise?
Staying healthy is very important but getting lazy is something much easy to be done. Please agree with me...

After a long nice jog in the evening, besides feeling tired and exhausted. I am hungry...
Thought of not wanting any rice cause it will be quite heavy so I thought of having some noodles. Recommended by my husband that this noodles is super famous in Sekysen 17, so we drove there and hope that famous hokkien mee is available. For those who been grow up in KL, hokkien mee means the fried big fat noodle and black in color. As a Penang-Lang (my husband), hokkien noodle = prawn noodle in KL.

Maybe due to I grow up eating both Hokkien Mee and Loh Mee, therefore, my expectations for this fried Hokkien noodles is extremely high. Besides the pork lard, sauce, the most important ingredient is the big fat yellow noodle. You can never replace it with any other noodles cause it will taste totally different. Back to this kopitiam I went, reach there at 8pm and the kitchen told us the waiting time is 45mins?! OMG !? no choice, just agree and be a good girl and wait.

The kitchen - looking for the charcoal~ ^^

The different between normal fried Hokkien Mee and the charcoal fried Hokkien Mee is just due to the burn smell and taste. Using the charcoal to fried Hokkien Mee is normally means having the higher temperature to cook the broth and noodles and you might get some burn smell and taste bit sweet bitterness from the plate of noodles.

After waited for 30 minutes, my Hokkien Mee arrived first, while my husband still waiting for his fried 'Ying Yong' noodles. Ying yong, basically is the mixed of both vermicelli and Kway Teow noodles. If I not mistaken, this is a Cantonese type of fried noodles with lots of gravy.

Kong Fu Ying Yong Noodle - RM8

Charcoal Fried Hokkien Mee - RM8

Now, let comment about the taste, erm...I love my fried Hokkien Mee, since it do taste like what I had expected. No wonder they were sold out by 9pm, I saw lots of patron coming to take away than dine-in here. Well, it might due to the weekend after all. As for the Ying Yong, is just normal and nothing special or to be highlighted. But curiosity, is the Ying yong also charcoal fried too?

Overall, for the price we had been paying and the time spending for waiting, I think if maybe the chances for me to come back again might be very slim. But I might come back again if I really craving for the Hokkien Mee or when I wanted to try the Loh Mee next time.

Asam Laksa & Tong Sui @ Separk, Petaling Jaya

Let me take a break from blogging on my Hatyai-Penang trip~

Last weekend, both me and my husband went to IKEA Damansara to celebrate IKEA Turns 20'~ though is was fun and there are tons of people but it become pain when you want to dine in for a meal in IKEA restaurants. We was there for couple of hours to play games and then decided to leave IKEA for late lunch.

Decided what and where to have a quick lunch especially when you hungry is kinda make one depress. After getting my car, I decided to drive to Seapark and hope that the AIK Prawn Noodle is available. Too bad, by the time we reached around 2:30pm and they told us the prawn noodle is finish?! sold out?! Therefore, we had to settle down with their Asam Laksa.

Yes, is was a food truck~

AIK Prawn Noodle and Asam Laksa is located next to the market. They are super famous with prawn noodle and Asam Laksa and normally open from noon till sold out. If you go on weekend, that is the crowd from their open till sold out.

Up-close of the stall or food truck from inside

As written in the truck, they are open from 12pm till 5pm, but trust me, they probably sold out before that. Besides, they closed on Monday. Well it make sense, since the market also closed on every Monday too.

Asam Laksa - RM6.00 (small)

A small bowl of Asam Laksa cost RM6.00, cheap or reasonable? Personally, is was quite expensive if you ask me as we all know what are the ingredient normally served. The taste is not bad, and the broth or soup is so tasty which make me craving for more. As for the noodle was just so so, which I would expect it would be more tender and smooth.

After the quick lunch, thought of going back home due to the hot sun, but guess what, we found a newly open dessert restaurant, or I would rather refer to a snack or tea break shop. As we are curious to see people queuing for the fresh fried 'Youtiao' in mandarin or 'You Char Kway' in Cantonese. While passing the place, I wan eyeing since I saw they serve beancurb dessert, 'tou fu fah'.

Fried You Cha Kway and dessert Tou Fu Fah & Mak Chuk

I was too excited until forget to take picture of the shop. Well, I am still hungry even after the Asam Laksa. I had choose a plain 'you cha kway' and a another sweet type of 'you cha kway'. As for the dessert or 'tong sui', I had the beancurb with brown sugar and my husband go for 'Mak Chuk' or sweeten wheat porridge. The dessert is not bad but a little too sweet for us. If I not mistaken the total bill come out to be around RM 8.00+/-

The small eatery shop named, Yuen Ting Cafe. Besides, they did serve several dessert and few common Chinese fried dough, They also have economy noodle and others sides. The small shop is located opposite the market before towards Seapark famous Pasembur and Cendol. It was super easy to located where they directly opposite the wet market.

Dim Sum Kitchen @ Damansara Utama/Uptown Damansra

It seem like it had been a habit of mine to indulgence myself with dim sum during the weekend. Understood that not many place offer dim sum nearby damansara, except the famous Jin Xuan  restaurant which there had several branch and it was really pack with people every weekend morning.   Damansara Utama or I love to called it uptown which I remember during my university days, where use to hang out here and they even had the night market almost everyday. How I miss this place once upon the time?

Since I decided to try something new, therefore I wouldn't go for Jin Xuan restaurant for the dim sum, after making a round at uptown Damansara, we decided to dine in here - Dim Sum kitchen. Firstly, we are lucky to get a parking may be around 50 meters from the shop. Trust me, you will not even think of getting a parking here during the weekday, even no chance for one to double park too. At first I was quite surprise as there are not many people, but since I had decided, so let get sitted and start the indulgences.

Fish Ball - RM3.40

The fish ball is ridiculous small and disappointing. This is the fish time I saw such dim sum which had kill my appetite. Don't ask about the taste, it totally not worth to try at all. I also ordered, prawn dumpling (RM4.80),beancurd prawn roll (RM3.80), fried prawn roll (RM3.40) and stir fried carrot cake (RM4.50).

Stir Fried Carrot Cake - RM4.50

I would like to say that only the stir fried carrot cake is up to standard and it do taste nice. This is the only highlight of my dim sum breakfast for the day. Others, I am sorry to say that, it was way below my expectation and I am not border to take anymore picture of the food.

Overall, the bill come to RM21.80 which include of a pot of tea at RM1.50/pax. I understand one shouldn't have such a high expectations , however, I wish they could improve their Dim Sum. Lastly, all the review is based on my own opinion and experience at that point of the time.

Nasi Kandar Salam @ Damansara Perdana

This is my first time reviewing a so called 'Mamak Restaurant', if you are Malaysian and PJ-rang, I am sure you will know the most famous restaurant like Kayu Nasi Kandar or Syed. There are lots of Mamak stall or restaurant around KL or PJ and it always crowded, why? Because it was always the best place for youngster to hang-out and is reasonably affordable or  it suppose to be cheap when I was a kid. I seldom go for a meal in Mamak restaurant if I have a choice because I am not a Nasi  Kandar fans or I find their food is quite oily... (Scare fat lor)

If you seriously looking for dinner at Damansara Perdana on Sunday night, I will wish you good luck which most of the shop is close and the variety is very limited if you reach there after 8pm. Both me and my husband was attract by the newly open Nasi Kandar Salam which newly open with the big signboard which I don't think anyone will miss it. There are not much crowded when I reach around 8pm and we are easily get a sit and I saw they even giving free WiFi, this is definitely a hangout place.

Soup Kambing - RM6.50

Whenever I went to a Mamak restaurant or stall, the first question I would ask if they offer mutton soup. It always been my favorite since when I was kid. Some of the place did not serve the bread with the soup but this one does. It reminds me of the mutton soup I had during my Penang trip.

Soup Kambing or Mutton Soup

Well, I really enjoy the soup which the spice and the mutton is so tender. The soup is really thick and creamy but luckily is not salty. It really one of the best so far I had since I move to Petaling Jaya area. Also, I have to agree, it do taste nice to dip the bread inside the soup.

Nasi Goreng Kambing - RM8.00

Mutton or Kambing in Bahasa Malaysia, which had always been our favorite. My husband order this fried rice with mutton and can said it didn't look very presentable but the taste is superb. The most surprise me was the mutton is so tender and it didn't taste hard or dry. The fried rice might be slightly expensive for a dinner however, it had become our recommended dish where I seriously think it taste better than others Mamak Restaurant in PJ.

Roti Telur Bawang - RM2.20

Since I never expected the mutton soup come with the bread therefore, I had order my usual Roti Telur Bawang or is a type of Prata with egg and onion. I usually had this or Roti Canai for my breakfast during my younger days which really make me fat as today. LOL~ if you ask me the to rate this Prata, I would say nothing special and it didn't even up to my standard, therefore, I will skip this for my next visit.

As for drink, I had Limau Ais/Lime with ice and my husband having his usual Teh Tarik, which both our drinks come to RM3.00. The total cost of the meal is RM20.90 inclusive of GST at RM1.20. Overall, the place had a good ambiance and there are more people hang-out at this place after 9pm either for supper or hang-out till late, since this restaurant is operating 24 hours.

Crayfish Party 2015 @ Ikea Restaurant

Staying nearby IKEA make me can't miss any food promotion form Ikea Restaurant.
I had mark my calendar on 14/08/2015, Friday to attend the Crayfish Party or I would say is another buffet offer by Ikea Restaurant. Since I did not purchase the ticket in advance, I actually quite worry if they are sold out but since I had learn from my previous experience on the Mid Summer Buffet, therefore I choose the first session which start at 5:30pm till 7:30pm instead the second session start at 8pm.

Sticker for the buffet entrance

I reach around 5:30pm and it had started, so without delay I went to purchase the ticket at RM35.00 per pax and we are also given RM10.00 cash voucher to shopping at Ikea. Out of curiosity I went to the serving place and look for Crayfish. Wow, is really prawn with big craw. Wondering how to eat, after taking a full plate of food then I walk slowly to get a sit while looking at how other customer enjoying the crayfish.

Fresh Water CrayFish

'I look so fresh or so life?!'

well, since is my first time to have this and I really don't have any expectation towards this big hard shell prawn. The only part that eatable is the body, the head and shell are all discard so only left a small chunk of meat. Feel wasted right? I really wanted to try to tear open the craw but is useless and somehow I feel is empty. Besides, crayfish, there are also other side dish such as below;

Crayfish Party Menu

Crayfish
  • Green salad, Cucumber salad, Hardboiled eggs with mayo and shrimp
  • Shell on prawns
Breads
  • Ikea Crispbread & Crisprolls
  • Thin bread
Warm Dish
  • Meatballs, Mashed Potatoes and Lingonberries
Dessert
  • Assorted cake and cookies
  • Almond cake
Beverages
  • Soft drink
  • Hot Beverage (coffee/tea)
The variety is not much but the main is the 'Shell on Prawns' - crayfish which I still think is a catch.
The crayfish is fresh and tasty either you may eat straight or dip in any sauce is perfect. I had mine dip in the mustard sauce with lingonberries, yum yum~

Hello~

Looking at the crayfish head did remind me of the 'Sebastian' from the Little Mermaid story. It make me think are you mini lobster? or maybe the 'Sebastian' is a crayfish instead of lobster? Hahaha~ I am sorry as I know is very rude to play with the food but... only this one, k?

Overall, I did enjoy dinning in Ikea restaurant and besides the crayfish, my all time favorite is the Meatball and Almond cake, which is they signature and almost all the table having this 2 dishes without failed. I just hope they could remain the same price for next year so I can try again such a rare 'fish'~ cheers!!!

Boat Noodle @ Empire Damansara, Damansara Perdana

Boat Noodle again?
Haha~ I know, another Thai food again. If you all remember that recently, I did visit a similar restaurant at Kota Damansara, Aroi Thai Boat Noodle. Actually, I had been to this Boat Noodle house in Empire Damasara for few times but yet I never review it.

This Boat Noodle restaurant is located at Empire Damansara, if you familiar with Damansara Perdana this wouldn't be something new to you, however, it actually located before the LHDN or next to the new hotel Qliq. Anyway, the best way is to find it >>> google map lor~ Sorry, as I am not good in giving direction.

The Entrance and Menu

Now, let see what I had;
Ka Num Toay - RM1.00/set of 2 pcs

I love this dessert so much, and they serve this dish first may be is an appetizer? Well, who care, since I always can't wait to try. This dish remind me of Kuih Talam, if you had this pandan and coconut kuih before trust me is the same in term of taste >> Sweet~

Beef/Chicken Pathumthani/Ayutthaya Rice Noodle - RM1.90 each bowl

Well, please don't ask me which noodle is which flavour now. I am also got confused, but I do believe the one with the sheered meat is chicken and the one without should be beef.  Hahaha~ well, I do love the unique taste of both flavour, either beef of chicken did not make any different for me. I do enjoy the mini serving and please don't deceive by the picture, the real serving is really small.

Order Guide

I, myself had 3 bowl for minimum. So can you guess how small is the serving?

Grilled Beef Meat Ball - RM5.90/set of 2 stick

The beef meat ball do taste like the one grill in Thailand, I think the sauce do make a trick of it as well. the spiciness which blend with the sweet taste really make one craving for more. It had somehow, become my favourite now. I should have try the chicken meat ball next.

Ice Blended Thai Green Tea - RM8.90

As for the drinks, I settle wit the Ice Blended Thai Green Tea. Well, first it didn't taste like green tea but it delicious, the sweetness and the smooth of the ice blended which make the drink close to perfect. Even though is quite expensive for the drinks but I still think is worth to try. Since how often do we seen anywhere serve Thai Green Tea?

Interior of the restaurant

Even though the place is quite small and crowded but they did a good job is their interior. It do give a retro feeling to the customer. Overall, the experience is not bad and I did go back from time to time. As for the final bill, me and my sister had total of 6 bowl of rice noodle @ RM1.90 each and others as shown above, the bill come to sub-total of RM27.20 and RM30.30 inclusive of 5% service charge and 6% GST. Still affordable right?
