Wun Nam Restaurant @ Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya

I come across this restaurant in one fine day, which I am sick and went to see doctor nearby. I pass by this place several time but never notice that is a restaurant here in Jalan PJU 8/5B, Damansara Perdana. Therefore, I told myself that I would like to try after I recover, so here I am on Friday night for dinner.

I was quite surprise they have quite a crowd for dinner. The restaurant is quite cozy and we manage to get a seat once entered the restaurant. The price in the menu is quite reasonable but some of the fish and seafood is not written any price, well, I guess is normal where they will follow market price. Since only both me and my husband dining therefore, simple dishes is just nice for us.

Claypot Fried Kangkung  - RM12.72

Their signature dishes, fried water spinach in claypot. The staff highly recommend this dishes as a must and I saw most of the table also order it therefore, we decided to try as well. The water spinach is very crunchy and it not that old like I expected.

Sweet and Sour Pork - RM16.96

The sweet and sour pork is just common and I think the pork is slightly overcook which make it slightly hard eat. If you ask me, I might not order this dishes again.

Old Cucumber Soup -  RM10.60

Lastly, we had the old cucumber soup, and this one is very nice. May be I am a soup person and I like the rich flavour of the soup and it do taste like double boil soup even though it written there steam soup. There are few variety of soup, and mostly it finish if you reach there late.

For drink, I ordered Chinese ice tea, RM0.53 and Herbal Tea, RM1.59 for my husband. Besides, we also have 2 rice at RM1.59 each. All the price above is inclusive of GST and the bill come to RM45.60 include of GST. So far the food and the price is still acceptable, however my revisit to the place recently which we ordered a fish which already cost us almost RM60.00 plus.

If you around Damansara Perdana and don't know where to have your meal, especially with a family, friends or guest. I would suggest you may want to try this cozy restaurant.

Overall, the food is quite a standard and the price is still affordable for me. The next door of the restaurant is selling wine, I wonder if we can have the wine and dine in there as well. Hahahaha~

Cheers~

Saisaki Japanese Buffet @ Wisma UOA II, Kuala Lumpur

Hello...
Sorry as been MIA for quite sometimes. Well, no worry I am just taking a break recently and now I am back with more review and updates. I am regretted to not able to review on the buffet that I had during Ramadan month and now even pass the Raya celebration already.

Anyway, I still want to review and share my experience on Saisaki Japanese Buffet. Well, nothing new and most of you had been there couple of time but for me, is was my first time having Japanese Buffet in Wisma UOA II,KL. The restaurant located at  1st floor of Wisma UOA II, if you are a first time there like me, you will wonder if you are at the correct place since the building is quite creepy after the office hour and most of the shop is closed. My husband and I reach there around 7pm, just before the buka puasa start. Upon reaching you are welcome and guide to the counter to pay first before seated. The price for the buffet on Friday is RM65.83 nett (inclusive tax).

The Entrance - taken from the cashier

The buffet selection

Personally, I like their interior which when I enter the restaurant is totally feel different compare to the outside which the Wisma UOA II is too quiet and dim as most of the shop are closed. The Sakura flower design really does give us the Japanese feeling. Since is Ramadan months, there also offer local delight or Traditional Malay food as well. With the Ramadan months, I can see there are lots Malay family waiting and having their buka puasa here.

My first thing to do in a buffet restaurant is to check on all the dishes available and my first thing to attack is my favourite;

Fresh Oyster and Scallop with Thai dressing

Heavenly the seafood is so fresh!!! I almost can't stop eating the fresh Oyster~ The Scallop is nice too and I find it quite a unique taste with the Thai salad. Thumb up~

Fried Seafood - fish, baby crab, scallop, mussel, oyster, bamboo clam & vege?!

Did I mentions that I love Seafood? therefore, nothing going to stop me now... more seafood, from the deep fried to bake and even Kam Heong fried bamboo clam. Delicious...

Sugar Cane Drink and White Fungus with Sweet Dates Drink

As for drink, there are a wide selection and there are hot and cold too. Since I am more interested on their food, I only help myself with hot green tea and I also try some sweet drink as above. Well, it do taste nice and refreshing.

Steam Patin with Soy Sauce and Fried Tempura + Satay

The best fish I ever had, the Steam Patin taste so nice and the tag written Australia Patin Fish. Wow?! As for tempura is not bad and there have quite a variety.

Lala and Mix Teppanyaki

Since we are getting full, therefore the food order getting smaller portion. I really enjoy the food there and I feel the freshness of all the food either raw or cooked. It make me drooling even while I blogging about it.

Soup - Buddha Jump Over the Wall & Shark Fin soup

If I not mistaken, there are 3 variety of soup to choose for, Buddha Jump Over the Wall, Shark Fin Soup and Fish Head Soup. All of them are my favourite but there are a limit with my stomach. I love the shark fin soup, it was so nice and I can taste every slice of the shark fin.

Grill Seafood & Cawanmushi

more food?! Since is a buffet.... why not? after trying all the seafood in variety cooking style, I just realise this is a Japanese buffet, therefore sashimi is a must. I have to give up on the sushi even though they look so tempting but I already reach my limit.

Sashimi & Fruits

Finally, dessert. I like the coconut jelly, it do look transparent and you might not realise in the picture since the place is white in color. Look up closely at the Kuih Talam, next to it is the coconut jelly.

Local Dessert - Herbal Jelly, Kuih Talam and Coconut Jelly

Ice-Cream

They had 8 variety of ice-cream to choose, for me I like my ice-cream with some fruits and peanut. They also had Cendul and ice-kacang (ABC) DIY at nearby the drinks corner.

Overall, most of the food is up to my expectation and for a buffet, I never expect the food to be this delicious. All the food is very well prepare and most important is the freshness of the ingredient which bring out the prefect flavor to all the dishes. Honestly, now I understand why is the restaurant full house even though it located is such place. Well Done!!!

*ps; By the way, we get free premium membership to sign-up for Shogun2u delivery, and I did try it recently and will share with you guyz later.

Midsummer Buffet @ Ikea Restaurant

I forget to post about a buffet that I had last month...
If you are an Ikea Family member, I think you had already known or even went to Midsummer Buffet on 9th June 2015. Let start by how I getting know about this buffet, from email of course.
This is what I received.

Tempting right? Who can resist???

So out of curiosity, I went to Ikea and bought the ticket for 2 pax (me & my hubby of course). I bought the ticket as earlier on 28 May, so I can get the early-bird price at RM30.00/pax with the cash voucher of RM20.00/ticket. Is so worth right?!

RM30 for buffet with RM20 voucher

After a long wait and thinking how would it like and don't know what to expect so I am excited on the actual day.We had choose the second session which is from 8pm till 10pm. We reach there as early as 7:45pm and there already a super long queue. Wow... it really scary. I am so hungry and had to wait in the long queue and saw people taking a few place and from what can I see is the buffet place is so small and people in the queue are not moving.

After half an hour queuing, finally I reach the place where we had the plate, after taking 2 plate of each of us. Patiently queuing to get the food. May be due to I am too hungry, I am trying to fill everything in my plate and actually starting eating some biscuit while in the queue.

Hungry fest after queuing for half an hour

I believe there are no need to comment of the food, as expected from Ikea Restaurant. The food is yummy and very filling. To my surprise, I am full after finish my plate and looking at the salmon ball I feel so guilty if I end up never finish it. The variety of the food is not much choices but we did enjoy the food.

If you ask me which would be my favorite, of course the meatball and salmon ball. I hope they will have another buffet like this again.

Ps; I received an email that Ikea Restaurant is having the Ramadan Buffet as well. ^ ^

Hee Lai Ton Restaurant (Pudu) @ Shaw Parade, Kuala Lumpur

This restaurant is recommended by one of my husband friend. Understand that he love dim sum therefore I follow to join the food - eating. This Hee Lai Ton Restaurant is located at 3rd floor, Shaw parade, Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah off Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur.

We went there during the weekend, so I already assume it will be difficult to get parking - for car and table - for dim sum. So I take my own sweet time to reach there around 10am and lucky enough I manage to get a parking inside Shaw Parade and a table once I reach the restaurant. Once we seated, we are asking us to order by filling the quantity in a form. My husband ordered a tea for 2 pax, and been waited more than 10 minutes before we ask the captain for the tea to be serve.

Finally the Tea serve and the sauces

Well, I understand the place is crowded and they are running full house but their service is really can't comment at all. We pass the order which written in the form given to us earlier and patiently wait for the food to be serve. Well, we only order 4 type of dim sum which I saw the portion is quite big.

Fried Eggplant Roll - RM6.80

Crystal Har Kau - RM7.50

Har Kau with Vege - RM7.50

Premium Beef Ball-RM8.00

You might be surprise with the Premium price, as I was stunned a bit when I go though the order form. Once I feel the service is poor therefore, I am quite reluctant to stay long in the restaurant. The serving is quite big and among the four dim sum I order, I love the Fried Eggpland and the Beef Ball the most. Especially the Fried Eggplant which is something different and the taste of the crispy eggplant really appetizing.

The bill come come out at RM39.10 with 6% service charge and 6% GST. Even though is pricey but with the portion they offer I think is more suitable if you come with a big family or group. Else, you can't even order much and you might be getting full pretty fast with their big portion. When we left, I realise they had a hall next door which serving full moon lunch. That might be one of the reason why they are sort of staff.

Aroi Thai Boat Noodle & Street Food @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Again, I am writing a review regarding Thai Food, which had always been my favorite. How possible I will miss it, especially when you found something good and cheap to share.

Actually, I just come across this restaurant after a movie at the Strand, Kota Damansara with my husband. Since it had long pass the dinner time, and we don't want to continue to stay in the Strand due to the air cond is too cold and I am freezing. Therefore, we go across the road  and to my surprise we found this Aroi Thai Boat Noodle & Street Food. The restaurant do remind me of the popular Thai Boat Noodle which I had recently at Empire Damansara.

I believe this restaurant is HALAL since the waiter and cashier are all Malay. Let see what I had;

First 6 dishes I ordered

Lemongrass drink & Thai ice tea

Well, as you may seen the portion is not as big as expected. However, I like it where they had lots of variety for the reasonable price. Oh ya! had I mentions about the price yet? All items is at RM1.90 each. Cheap right? how are you going to resist it and is like a food sampler with such a low price.

Stir Fried Kangkung

Thai Style Omelet with Rice

Tom Yum Glass Noodle

Beef Glass Noodle Soup

Green Papaya Salad

Green Curry Chicken Rice

Well, the portion is quite small but with the price we are paying I think is worth. Besides, value for money, I like it there due to they had much more variety to offer, however, please don't put such high expectation on the food. Ok?
The food taste quite common, is like most of the food is pre-cook and serve when you order. I personally like the lemongrass drink which I found it quite refreshing, beef noodle soup and Green curry chicken rice. Others dishes is acceptable and for the green papaya salad, I think they are not freshly make therefore is a bit soft or over soaked with the sauce.
If you ask me if I had enough of the food there? Sure not... I am just about full so here the add-on order and dessert;

Thai Fish Cake

Coconut Curd

I like the fish cake, and it do taste nice. Even though I had to wait for quite a while but worth it. As for the Jelly or coconut curd, it do taste like Pandan coconut or water with coconut. I like this both last dishes as well. While waiting for the fish cake to be serve, my husband ordered another glass of refreshing Lemongrass drink.

The interior inside the restaurant

The restaurant is simple and since there is not much crowd at that time, we do feel cozy. With every dishes only cause us RM1.90 each, the bill come out at RM22.80 and what is the best thing about this, there are no service charge and no GST!!! Bravo~ Such an affordable and cozy meal we had.
I am sure will go back to try others dish in the menu again!

1 Day Trip @ SEKINCHAN, SELANGOR

As quote in Wikipedia, Sekinchan is a small town located in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Apart from being a lively fishing village, Sekinchan is one of the major rice producing areas of Malaysia. Sekinchan is often visited for its fresh seafood. Sekinchan had gain a large popularity recently especially from the drama series 'The Seeds of Life' which been release in year 2011/2012.

I had wanted to go since last year after my mother sharing her story and it sure tempting when you heard they offer fresh seafood with affordable price. So after planning and wondering for whole week, my husband finally say .. let go! no need to think and plan, ok? To my excited, here I come;

We started our journey as early as 8:30am, travelling from Petaling Jaya, Selangor to Sekinchan it took us around 1 and a half hour to reach there which we are using the LKSA highway, which exit and pass by Kuala Selangor before reaching Sekinchan. Once we passing by the paddy field along the road, we are sure that I am here at Sekinchan. Reaching there as early as 10am, I ought that we can have a early brunch, to my surprise the restaurant already pack with people and you need to waited to be seated. Wah Lau...

The Restaurant we had our brunch and the road along it

I am lucky to have a friend which staying Sekinchan and she recommend me to this Restaurant Guan Hwat. The restaurant is actually located next to the famous shark porridge, Jiaan Chyi Seafood Restaurant. Trust me the serving is very slow, since the restaurant is running full house and we had waited for half an hour for the food to be serve. Let see after half an hour my food finally;

Our Seafood Brunch

I can't really recall most of the dish name, since is already a month ago however, let me try to recap start from the top right is 'Cap Chay' or Mix vegetable, Chili Prawn, Slipper Fish, Lala, Shark Meat and 'Yaw Mak Tam'. We enjoy the food to the max, let me review the first dish;

Cap Chay - first Ito my surprise their mixed vegetable had fish head inside? something new for me though, about the taste is very appetizing and since they serve it inside the claypot which help to maintain the heat, it had make the dish to perfection.

Chilli Prawn - Slightly spicy but at the same time you taste the sweetness of the prawn and the saltiness of the spice which make one craving for more.

Slipper Fish with tauchu - This dish name is a direct translation from Chinese (Mandarin) therefore, I have no idea of the actual name for this. If you wonder about the fish and the taste, then yes! the fish really flat as it name, since there are less meat therefore, we are getting 4 pieces?! The taste is just as expected but what make it interesting will be the fish itself, you will find it really less meat.

Lala Kam Heong - I don't think there is any need to review on the nice food, which the food and picture had spoken for it self. The big and fresh Lala, who will make a pass?

Fried Shark meat - We did not order shark porridge even though had offer us, we still prefer rice. The perfect dish with rice is the fried shark meat, my husband love this dish, why? no bone ma....?! we might be too hungry from waiting, all the food seem to be very pleasant and tasty.

Yaw Mak Tam - This is the dish I don't think anyone will go wrong, just a simple fried vegetable.

Overall, with the big serving of each dish, we are totally full to heart content. What really amazed me is the total bill come to RM98.70nett for all the dishes and rice also the tea. Now, I feel like is worth traveling and waiting for the food. However, by the time we finish our lunch is already 12:30pm, we saw the long queue outside the restaurant so we decide to leave so the other customer can enjoy their food.

Next destination after lunch is the beach, Pantai Redang, Sekinchan. I heard this place is the famous tourist spot and also it had become popular thanks to the drama series which taken place here.

The sign you won't miss

Most popular - Wishing Tree

The small temple where you will get the wishing ribbon

The Huts along the beach side

Upon reaching there, we saw there lots of tourist bus and private car parking there. We realise getting a parking there is almost impossible so we had to park bit further and walk to the beach. First thing when we reach there is looking for the famous wishing tree and making a wish~ If you would like to make a wish, please get into the temple and make a donation before you get the ribbon to write your wish down. Once done, you will be find a way to throw and make sure it will hang on the tree. My wish is... Please get all my wishes to come true~ TQ

The temple is directly facing the beach, since we reach there by noon and it super sunny day so I only took some picture of the beach and stay in the hut. There is also some food stall, kite stall, souvenir stall and others which is like a bazaar. After taking some picture and roam around the beach under the hot sun, we decide to have something cold.

Cendol Coconut Special - RM5.00

Haha~ I found this, the cendol coconut special! The only thing which I think special is the cendol serve inside the coconut. if you ask me if worth the price, I would just say, I try due to my curiosity only and for the price is slightly pricy. The taste I would say nothing special at all.

Ice Kacang & Fried Prawn Cracker

The stall next to Coconut Cendol Special is selling ice-kacang and fried prawn cracker. I am not sure about the price since my friend ordered. I had try both but both dish not even meet my expectation, and at that point of time, I feel that my cendol taste is better. My friend actually wanted to ordered the fresh oyster from the opposite stall for us to try however, it sold out fast during the weekend.

After lazing around and have our snack, we decided to go to visit a fruits farm - La Familia Orchard. The orchard location not far from the paddy field where we have to pass by a large paddy field and some other corn or vegetable orchard before reaching the fruits orchard. At first we are quite worry if they will allow us to visit take photo but upon entering the orchard, we been giving a warm welcome and greet even offer us to visit the fruits farm. The farm is not very big, as mentions by the owner it a 3 acre.

The view inside the orchard

Their famous local rose apple

Passion Flower

I am enjoying my stay there which after taking some photo and roaming around the orchard, there are some stall inside selling local fruits - rose apple, papaya, guava, mango (famous Sekinchan milk mango) and jack fruits. They also sell some fresh and fried fish paste, water and juices too. Due to I am too enjoying the scenery I forget to took picture of the food.

Not to forget the most important part of the trip is a must to visit Paddy Field. Even though we been passing by the paddy field every time we travel on the road but stopping by the road side is kinda dangerous and we might blocking others big vehicle like lorry too. My friend bring me to another temple to have a clear view the paddy field.

Yellow ribbon - Bamboo wishing tree

Temple near the paddy field

Tourist Shuttle

The view from the pagoda

I was amazed of the paddy field scenery, is totally awesome right? hahaha~
This time we did not go in to the temple or making a wish, may be due to we are too stunned of the scenery or too tired. Thanks to the hot sun, we are able to take so many nice picture but at the same time burning my skin. HOT!!! We climb all up the small pagoda and start taking picture, may be during that day which are less tourist which also not that crowded so we can enjoying our time there.

After the visit of the temple to have the overview of the paddy field, next we went to visit the paddy processing factory. Along the paddy processing factory there are some paddy which starting to ripe. The tourist can visit the museum and paddy plantation with the entrance fees of RM5.00 per person. There are lots of tour bus stopping along the side which making the road become narrow. We just went down to take some picture and check on the Sekinchan famous pearl rice. Trust me, is not cheap with minimum 2kg per pack is already cost us RM16.00.

Paddy Field near the factory

Due to there are too crowded in the evening so we didn't stay long in the paddy factory and we decided to have an early dinner as well. My friend recommend me this place for dinner, and they only open from 5pm onward and we are their very first customer since we arrive there almost 5pm.

Another seafood restaurant - Xi Ji

Haiwaii

Passion Fruits ice-blended

The place really do have the unique drink and I love my hawaii, which I thought is ice-kacang but to my surprise very nice and cooling to have the watermelon at the bottom and the sweetness which make one feel like in Hawaii. They ice-blended drink do look cool where they serve it on top of the drink instead of blended together and the taste is just how we wanted it.

Hokkein Mee - RM7

Wat Tan Hor - RM7

Mantis Prawn - RM23

Sotong - RM20

Balitong - RM18

 Even though the price is slightly expensive than the lunch but the serving is big, and the seafood is no doubt of their freshness. All the dishes is cook with charcoal which bring out every dish aroma. About the taste of the dishes;

Fried Noodles - I prefer the Wat Tan Hor compare to the Hokkein Mee, may be due to the Hokkein is too watery and I prefer the one in KL better. The Wat Tan Hor is nice, not too salty and the noodle cook perfectly like char kway teow.

Mantis Prawn - So good and I can't stop eating it. The mantis prawn is so big with lots of meat inside. According to my friend, this is their most popular food in Sekinchan and is a must try dish. We are lucky because this is their last serving and most of the time their Mantis Prawn had reserved by their regular customer.

Sotong - Actually, we wanted the baby squid, however is not available. Therefore, they recommend us to have the normal fried squid, the taste is ok and not too oily.

Balitong - I not sure what is the English name for this therefore I check on Wikipedia it commonly name as mud creeper. This is my husband favorite seafood, is like escargot, where we going to suck the meat out of the shell. I know this dish is a bit messy but the taste, will give you a feeling like it never enough. The Balitong is huge compare to the one I always had in PJ and not to mentions the serving is big which I think is still worth the price.

The total cost for the meal including the drinks RM10.50 is RM85.50, which I think is still affordable despite the big serving and all their dishes are cook with charcoal. Overall, we are satisfied with the food and the serving didn't take too long. By the time we finish our meal, the restaurant is already running full house with their customer that come for dinner.

We are leaving Sekinchan around 6:30pm, using the same road back to PJ which we will have to pass by the Kuala Selangor and I told my husband regarding the Cendol Bakar which I had it once few year back, as well as they offer drive-thru, so he say; let go and try, ok?

Cendol Bakar - Drive Thru

I am so excited with the drive-thru of course. We had the cendol VVIP, which include the pulut, well trust me it was too sweet for me, even my tooth are acting up. Compare with the taste that I still remember, I believe it actually taste nicer the last time even though they forget to give me the cendol. Anyway, I don't think that we will back again and I still wonder why they are still open even though is already almost 7pm? May be their business are getting better and they are able to more as they price had increased as well.

Finally, we are reaching home almost close to 9pm and we are using the LKSA for our smooth journey back. Overall, we are enjoying the trip, food and scenery even is just a one day tour but for us, we feel that we had accomplish lots of things which make this trip very meaningful for us.
Thank you~ Can't wait to go Sekinchan again!!!
